Owen Caissie: Rising Star in the Chicago Cubs Organization Garners Minor League All-Star Honors

Ontario Youth Team alum (2019) and Chicago Cubs prospect Owen Caissie earned recognition as a Baseball America Minor League All-Star. The 21-year-old outfielder showcased his talents with the Double-A Tennessee Smokies, participating in 120 games during the season. Caissie demonstrated impressive stats, boasting a .289 batting average, 22 home runs, and 84 runs batted in, with an outstanding OPS of .918.

Originally drafted in the second round of the 2020 MLB Amateur Draft from Burlington's Notre Dame High School by the San Diego Padres, Caissie joined the Cubs in a trade that sent Yu Darvish to the west later that same year. He proudly represented Canada in this year's World Baseball Classic, contributing to three games and delivering a home run and four RBIs.

Owen Caissie's ascent in the Cubs organization continued as he reached Double-A Tennessee, positioning himself for a potential Cubs debut in 2024. Monday brought additional accolades for his remarkable season, as Caissie was named among the prospects selected for the MiLB Prospect Team of the Year’s First Team.

The Cubs displayed confidence in Caissie's abilities by assigning him to High-A at the age of 19 at the beginning of 2022. Notably younger than his competition, Caissie entered High-A with the majority of his game experience coming from the complex, showcasing his talent and potential for the future.
