National Volunteer Week 2025

From April 27 to May 3, communities across Canada celebrated National Volunteer Week, honoring the countless individuals who selflessly give their time and energy to make a difference. This year’s theme, “Volunteers Make Waves,” served as a powerful reminder of how one person’s efforts can ripple out to create lasting change. I was both humbled and proud to be recognized by Ontario Baseball as part of their celebration of volunteerism.

Throughout my coaching journey, from local diamonds to national championships, I've always believed in giving back. Volunteering isn’t about recognition; it’s about impact. It’s about helping young athletes find their confidence, build character and learn the value of teamwork and perseverance. Being showcased by Ontario Baseball during this special week was an unexpected honor and a moment I’ll remember.

Coaching baseball has never just been about wins and losses for me. It’s about growth, both for the players and myself. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with hundreds of teams, thousandths of players and countless families who trust the process and commit to the journey. Each practice, game and conversation is an opportunity to help someone move forward, not just in sport, but in life.

When organizations like Ontario Baseball take the time to highlight the behind-the-scenes efforts of volunteers, it sends a strong message: what we do matters. It inspires others to get involved and reminds coaches, umpires, organizers and mentors across the province that their work is seen and appreciated.

The theme couldn’t be more fitting "Volunteers Make Waves". From organizing practices in the offseason to travelling across the province with young athletes, volunteers in baseball communities truly do create waves of influence. The ripple effect of mentoring just one athlete can extend far beyond the field, into classrooms, homes and future careers.

To everyone who volunteers their time to grow this game: thank you. Whether you’re raking the infield before a doubleheader or staying late to throw extra batting practice, your dedication is shaping futures.

I’m grateful to Ontario Baseball for including me in this year’s National Volunteer Week celebrations. Coaching continues to be one of the most rewarding aspects of my life and I’m proud to be part of a community that values giving back. Let’s keep making waves on and off the field.
