Player Profile: Austen Swift

Coach Q Baseball would like to congratulate Austen Swift, who has transferred to Cal State Berkeley, after completing 2 years at Blinn Junior College, in Texas. Austen came to West Toronto Baseball in the fall of 2010, to start his elite baseball journey. He went from a skinny, athletic kid to an "Athletic Beast". He has to be one of the hardest working young men I have ever come across. Every drill or advice I gave him, he seemed to have mastered it and always wanted more. He truly made a change to his lifestyle. As a 17u, Swift was the starting center fielder on the 2012 Triple AAA Ontario Championship team. A first for West Toronto. For his 18u year, Austin went on to play for the Ontario Blue Jays and the Langley Blaze, BC.

Swift was showcased as a Canadian representative, at the 8th Annual 2014 Power Showcase held in Miami Florida. He hit 6 home runs 4 of which, were longer than 450 feet. It didn't stop there as he was drafted in the 35th round of the 2014 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Oakland A’s, the 2nd in West Toronto history.

Choosing to continue his post-secondary education, Austin committed to Blinn Junior College in Texas. A nationally-ranked program where he hit .353 with 10 home runs, 27 RBI, 38 runs, 31 walks and a team-high .474 on-base percentage in 2016. Swift joins the Cal State Berkeley Bears for the 2017 season and will look to make an impact as an outfielder.

It has truly been a pleasure coaching and helping in the process, of Austen's development. Good luck and Go Bears!!!
