The 2016 Baseball Ontario Youth Team tryouts were a great success. Ontario's best 17 year olds, approximately 180 players, came out to Vaughan Grove Sports Complex to compete for a chance to represent Ontario and play at the 2016 Canada Cup. It was set up in the style of a "Showcase Tournament". The players were divided into 9 teams and each played 4 games. There was plenty of opportunity for players to show off their skills, as the Friday consisted of running 60s, taking infield/outfield and batting practice. The games were entertaining and at times intense with the "Cardinal Red" team taking home the bragging rights going undefeated. It's a necessary evil that's never easy for any coaching staff, deciding which players they will choose. With the talent that was displayed, it will be difficult. Although, I wouldn't want it any other way, as baseball in Ontario is growing and the future is bright.
