A Remarkable Journey with the North American Indigenous Games

As the 2023 North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) approaches, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey I've had the honor of being a part of. In particular, I would like to express my deep appreciation to Brendan and Nadeen from the Moose Factory Mushkegowuk Youth Department, who provided me with the extraordinary opportunity to coordinate a baseball training camp for the exceptionally talented athletes who will be participating in the NAIG Baseball tournament. The passion, dedication and talent displayed by these athletes have been nothing short of inspiring.

The 10th North American Indigenous Games promises to be a spectacle of diversity, featuring competitions in 16 different sports. Spread across 21 venues in Kjipuktuk (Halifax), Dartmouth, and Millbrook First Nation, this event will be a celebration of Indigenous athleticism and culture. From basketball and lacrosse to swimming and wrestling, athletes from various Indigenous Nations will come together to showcase their skills and compete at the highest level.

NAIG 2023 goes beyond mere competition. It serves as a powerful platform to unite over 5,000 athletes, coaches, and team staff members hailing from 756+ Indigenous Nations. The Games offer an opportunity to celebrate, share, and reconnect through the universal language of sports and culture. It is a testament to the resilience, strength, and rich heritage of Indigenous communities across North America.

The success of such a monumental endeavor would not be possible without the support of countless volunteers. Over 3,000 individuals have dedicated their time and efforts to ensure the smooth running of NAIG 2023. Their commitment and selflessness are invaluable, providing a solid foundation upon which this event can thrive. It is through their collective passion and tireless work that the athletes can truly shine on the grand stage.

As the anticipation builds, it is essential to stay informed and engaged with all the happenings surrounding NAIG 2023.
