The 2016 Ontario University Athletic Awards were distributed and two West Toronto Baseball Alumni were amongst the winners. Lucas DaSilva was named "Rookie of the Year" and Gabriel Nakonechny was named "1st Team All-Star" 2nd Baseman, for the 2nd consecutive year.
Despite a disappointing season and missing the playoffs, the future is bright for McMaster Universities middle infielder, Lucas DaSilva. The engineering major, started every game batting .406/.446/.478 13R, 5 RBI, 5 BB.
Gabriel Nakonechny of the University of Toronto followed up his freshmen campaign with his 2nd consecutive 1st Team All-Star selection. Gabriel played in 17 games and was ranked sixth in the OUA with a .417 batting average, while leading the conference with 18 stolen bases. The International Relations major was a terror on the base paths for the Blues as he recorded 18 stolen bases.
Very honored to have been able to help in their development throughout the years. They are exceptional young men and terrific ballplayers. Wishing you continued success from the West Toronto Baseball family
